MIDNIGHT D’ RAIN
Vietnam Heritage Collection
The city dreams a slumber deep,
Past midnight, who still wakes to weep?
The rain sweeps off the stifling day,
And cools the heated streets asleep.
Hot asphalt breathes in chilling air,
And rotting leaves drink raindrops there.
Deep puddles hold the night’s dark trace:
Ash, dust, and wine forgotten there.
Through weeping rain, the shadows tread,
With weary shoulders, steps ahead.
Their hands still wear the scent of toil,
Through silent nights where dreams are led.
Then morning breaks with golden light,
And footprints melt from mortal sight.
Only the lingering scent remains.
A nameless memory in the night.
